Brute “beat stepson to death with a stick” while boy’s mother “did nothing to stop him”

A man allegedly beat his stepson to death with a stick while the boy's mum is accused of doing nothing to stop him.

Tony Essobti Badre is accused of beating seven-year-old Giuseppe to death with a stick while mum Valentina Casa allegedly did nothing to stop him. Both could face life sentences.

Tony Essobti Badre allegedly clubbed his partner's seven-year-old son to death with a stick and is accused of badly beating the boy's little sister, who is aged just 3.

The 25-year-old Tunisian-Italian could face a life sentence for the alleged murder of the lad, named as Giuseppe D, and beating the toddler, Noemi, whose face was bloodied.

While the mum, Valentina Casa, could also face a life sentence for failing to intervene in the attack on her son, under Italian law.

Tony Essobti Badre is accused of the murder.

The alleged offenses were said to have taken place on January 27 last year in Naples.

Requests from prosecutors Paola Izzo and Paolo Sozio to see both defendants imprisoned for life were presented at the Court Of Naples.

The defendants attended the hearing through video conference calls from prison, according to La Republicca.

Casa stands accused of leaving her dying son unattended for a long period of time, before calling the emergency services.

Badre was allegedly abusive.

Neighbors said that they were aware of the alleged abuse and that Casa allegedly covered for her partner’s alleged violence many times in the past.

She was present on the night in question, as she was on previous occasions, and reportedly did nothing to help her two young children during the attack.

Her partner, Badre, has been charged with voluntary murder, attempted murder of the victim’s younger sister, and mistreatment of the family aggravated by cruelty.

Casa allegedly defended her partner and attempted to cover up for him after the incident.

Despite being present at the time of the incident, Casa did nothing to prevent her son from dying, the court heard.

During the hearing, the defendants were shown intercepted recordings of Tony speaking of the incident:

He said: “I don’t know what got into me that day, but I punched him so many times, then took a bat.

“I didn’t understand anything anymore."

The court heard a conversation, between the defendant's sister and ex.

The defendant's ex is heard saying: “Even when he was with me, he was always violent and aggressive.

“I’ve already told him 'Tony, you’re a good guy, you don’t have to behave like that'."

The case has led to questioning the measures taken to protect such ‘collateral victims’ from potential harm in neglectful families.

The case continues.
