Child killer who dumped girl, 11, in a sewer tries to slice his throat in court

A KILLER who snatched an 11-year-old girl and dumped her corpse in a sewer has tried to slice his throat in court to derail his sentencing hearing.

Nikolay Tarasov, 23, was sentenced to 15 years in jail for his horrendous crime, after the failed suicide attempt in Ukraine.

Convicted murderer Nikolay Tarasov attempted to derail his sentencing by slashing his own throat in court.

Eleven-year-old Daria Lukyanenko was snatched from a deserted street in Ivanivka, in Ukraine’s Odessa region, minutes after she said goodbye to her mum and headed to her dance class, the court heard.

Tarasov reportedly dragged the child into his house and tried to rape her, before hitting her in the neck with an awl tool when she resisted.

He then put a plastic bag on her head to muffle her groans of pain, before carrying the body to the toilet near his house and throwing it into the drop hole, according to the court records.

Daria died from the injuries inflicted by the attacker, experts said during the hearing.

After about a week of searching, police, and volunteers discovered her corpse in Tarasov’s toilet.

Tarasov's victim, eleven-year-old Daria Lukyanenko, was snatched and murdered before her body was dumped in a sewer.

In a gruesome video from the courtroom, screams can be heard as Tarasov suddenly raises a hand to his throat and slashes it with a razor blade.

The apparent attempt to thwart yesterday’s sentencing came after he announced that he would “put an end to the case on my own”.

The defendant was quickly overpowered by police officers who rushed into the dock and took the blade away.

The hearing continued after he received medical assistance. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Judges had earlier found him guilty of kidnapping, murder, and attempted rape.

Nikolay Tarasov, 23, was handed a 15-year prison sentence yesterday.

Police and volunteers discovered the girl's corpse in Tarasov’s toilet after a week of searching.

Hundreds attended Daria’s funeral in 2019, while Tarasov’s mother Maria publicly “disowned” her son.

A lie detector had reportedly proven that the man’s parents knew about the murder on the day it was committed but had kept silent.

As this was not recognized as official evidence by the court, they would not be brought to justice, reports said.

Police officers removing Daryna’s body from Tarasov’s toilet.

Armed police were called in to intervene after the perpetrator’s family home was besieged by angry locals.

Daria’s relatives said they would appeal the sentence and demand life imprisonment for the killer.

The family’s lawyer Ruben Stepanyan told local media they were "extremely unhappy" with the verdict.

"A fair sentence in this case is life imprisonment.”
