Influencer mom facing jail after falsely accusing couple of trying to kidnap kids

'Momfluencer' Katie Sorensen from California shared Instagram videos in which she said a Latino couple tried to kidnap her children at a Michael's craft store.

An Instagram influencer mother has been charged with lying to the police after she accused a Latino couple of trying to kidnap her two children.

Katie Sorensen from California is a "momfluencer", but recently used her online platform to make two videos accusing the couple from Petaluma of kidnap.

The mother, from Sonoma, made two Instagram videos, in which she claimed two people attempted to kidnap her children while she was out shopping with them back in December.

The videos went viral and were watched nearly five million times, although Sorensen has since made her account private.

Sorensen claimed the incident took place outside Michael's craft store.

The mum has now been charged with giving false information to the police, the Petaluma Argus-Courier reports.

Petaluma police quickly cleared the accused couple, Sadie and Eddie Martinez, of any wrongdoing.

They said Sorensen's complaint was false.

Mr. and Ms. Martinez, who have five children, were shopping at Michael's craft store for a decorative baby Jesus.

Sorensen has now been accused of racial profiling for what she did.

Sadie said they are "very happy with the news" that Sorensen has been charged.

“It gives everyone a little bit of help," Sadie said.

"Things like this do happen, and we wondered for a while if she would ever face charges."
