A drunk woman stabbed her pet cat up to 10 times and then put the injured animal into the freezer with ready meals.

Suzanne Bennett, 48, had drunk three bottles of white wine before she attacked Poppy.

She then phoned the police herself to admit what she had done – and thankfully, officers arrived in time to save the cat.

They heard miaowing coming from the freezer in Greater Manchester on January 19, and opened it up to find Poppy critically injured.

Her neck and legs had been knifed, but she was taken to the vet and has now made a full recovery in the care of the RSPCA.

Bennett told a court hearing: ‘I had three cats for ten years, which were ten, nine and eight.

‘I had them since they were eight weeks old. I treated them like they were my children. I looked after them before I looked after myself. I do not know how many times I stabbed them, by the way.’

The Sun reported that Bennett, who has mental health issues, appeared at Wigan Magistrates Court where she admitted causing unnecessary suffering to an animal and was ordered to complete a 18-month community order.

In addition, she was ordered to complete a nine month alcohol treatment requirement, was fined £100 and told to pay £300 in vet bills and £95 in costs.

She has been banned from keeping any animals for five years.
